The Henderson County Rescue Squad recently completed a $50,000 Grant awarded by the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal. The grant, which was awarded in December of 2005, was used to purchase specialized rescue equipment for Heavy Rescue, Swiftwater and Dive Rescue. The NC Volunteer Rescue & EMS Grant program awards money to departments based on their capabilities and need. The fund is generated from North Carolina Motor Vehicle Safety Inspections. Twenty Five cents of each vehicle inspection goes into a fund that is available to agencies across the state. This grant provides matching money on a dollar for dollar basis up to $50,000 ($25,000 local & $25,000 state). "We were fortunate to receive enough donations from our 2005 fund drive to pay for our portion of the grant." stated Rescue Squad Chief Jimmy Brissie.
This grant brings the total grant amount received by the Henderson County Rescue Squad to $79,687.19 since 1993 ($159,374.38 (state match plus local money)).
