Rescue Squad Seeks Donations Through Letter Drive

December 4th, 2006

The Henderson County Rescue Squad, which formed in 1957, is seeking donations through a letter drive that begins the week of December 4, 2006.  One hundred percent of your tax-deductible donation will go to support the Rescue Squad in much needed capital improvements.  The Rescue Squad is made up of 49 dedicated volunteers whose mission is to serve Henderson County in case of an accident or a disaster.  In 2005 the Rescue Squad responded to over 474 calls for service.  These calls for service included medical emergencies, water rescues, automobile accidents, rehab at structure fires, missing person searches, and medical standbys for EMS and at community events such as football games and the Apple Festival.  The Rescue Squad is certified as a Heavy Rescue Provider and is also High Angle Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue and Dive Rescue certified through the NC Association of Rescue & EMS.

The money raised through the letter drive will go toward capital improvements.  The Rescue Squad’s current needs include:  replacement rescue tools for those that are over 20 years old, new ambulance stretchers, two way radios and pagers, and replacements for aging dive equipment.  The Rescue Squad greatly appreciates the continued support of Henderson County residents.  If there are any questions please contact Chief Jimmy Brissie at the Rescue Squad station at 828-692-3487.
