The Henderson County Rescue Squad Inc., which formed in 1957 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary, is seeking donations through a letter drive that begins the week of December 10, 2007. The Rescue Squad is an IRS approved 501(C)(3) non-profit tax-deductible corporation. One hundred percent of your tax-deductible donation will go to support the Rescue Squad in much needed capital improvements. The Rescue Squad is made up of 41 dedicated volunteers whose mission is to serve Henderson County in case of an accident or a disaster. In 2006 the Rescue Squad responded to over 494 calls for service. These calls for service included medical emergencies, water rescues, automobile accidents, rehab at structure fires, missing person searches, and medical standbys for EMS and at community events such as football games and the Apple Festival. The Rescue Squad is certified as a Heavy Rescue Provider and is also High Angle Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue and Dive Rescue certified through the NC Association of Rescue & EMS.
