The Henderson County Rescue Squad, which formed in 1957, is seeking donations through a letter drive that begins the week of December 12, 2005. One hundred percent of your tax-deductible donation will go to support the Rescue Squad in much needed capital improvements. The Rescue Squad is made up of 42 dedicated volunteers whose mission is to serve Henderson County in case of an accident or a disaster. In 2004 the Rescue Squad responded to over 520 calls for service. These calls for service included medical emergencies, water rescues, automobile accidents, rehab at structure fires, missing person searches, and medical standbys for EMS and at community events such as football games and the Apple Festival. The Rescue Squad is certified as a Medium Rescue Provider and is also Swiftwater Rescue and Dive Rescue certified through the NC Association of Rescue & EMS.
The money raised through the letter drive will go toward capital improvements. The Rescue Squad’s current needs include: a new Ambulance to replace one that is 21 years old, additional rescue tools to become a Heavy Rescue Provider, a new outboard motor to replace on that is 20 years old, and rescue equipment for specialties such as water rescue, rope rescue and collapse rescue. The Rescue Squad greatly appreciates the continued support of Henderson County residents.
