Current News & Happenings at HCRS
During October of 2008 HCRS along with Blue Ridge Community College
and North Carolina Emergency Management will be hosting several training
opportunities for Search and Rescue:
SAR Fundamentals Class (SARFUN) -

SAR- What is it and how do you fit in; Getting involved in SAR; Incident
management and organizational structure; Fitness; Survival and body
management; Clothing; Emergency survival skills; Problems associated
with specific SAR environments; Survival first aid considerations; SAR
ready pack, preparedness kits; Personal outdoor equipment; Travel
skills: Foot travel for the SAR worker; Navigation; Communications; SAR
resources; Psychological and stress problems in SAR; Search; Handling
evidence; Clue consciousness; Anatomy of a SAR incident; Lost person
behavior; Search probability theory; Tracking; Rescue gear; Rope related
skills; Evacuation; Hand and power tools for rescue; Air operations
observer; Helicopters in SAR; Handling external influences; Legalities:
Issues and trends; Preventive SAR education.
Operations Section Chief -

This class will prepare students to operate as an Operations Section
Chief as part of a NIMS Incident Command System. This program will
be delivered in conjunction with the DuPont Rescue Experience.
DuPont Rescue Experience -

The DuPont Rescue Experience will simulate search and rescue operations
in a wilderness environment. The Exercise will begin on Friday November
7th 1200 and will conclude on Sunday November 9th . The exercise will be
divided into four (12) hour operational periods and will be managed
utilizing the National Incident Management System. Search crews, dog
crews, and technical rescue teams are encouraged to participate. Four
“Mini-Training” sessions will be conducted beginning at noon on the 7th
covering the following topics: ICS, Wilderness Medicine, Ropes & Land
Navigation. Limited to the first
100 students preregistered.

Our Mission
Since 1957 the
purpose of the Henderson County Rescue Squad has been to serve at any
time, upon proper request, on any mission of mercy; to aid and assist in
case of disaster or accident, within the capacity and mission of the
Rescue Squad, where human life is or has been endangered.
